This wolf is considerably more approachable than the traditional one, which is deliberate: it keeps the tale working for a two-year-old instead of frightening them out of it.

Children take over the retelling quickly, and that is where the value is. Working a puppet and speaking for it builds vocabulary and confidence in a way that being read to does not.
