DRILL RATTLE

This blue drill-shaped rattle features Jules the dog and stimulates a baby's senses with its sounds and varied textures.

The shape matters more than it appears to. A tool has a handle, and a handle is far easier for a small hand to grip than a round toy, so this succeeds earlier than most first rattles do.

It also has a second life. At six months it is something to shake and chew. By eighteen months it is a prop for copying whatever you are doing with your own tools, which is where pretend play begins.

Entirely soft with no hard parts. Machine washable at 30 degrees on a gentle cycle. Lilliputiens is a Belgian brand, founded in 1995 and designed by a team largely made up of parents working alongside early-childhood specialists. Tested to EN71 and ASTM standards and screened for AZO dyes, cadmium and phthalates.
